Codfish Academy, a training centre specialising in Unreal Engine game development, has opened in Portugal.

Located at Parque Tecnológico de Óbidos, the training centre was co-founded by Oliver Kern, Ricardo Flores Santos, and Kadri Harma.

Between the three partners, they have over five decades of experience in the industry having formerly worked at Kokku, Nine66, and Lockwood Publishing.

Codfish Academy has begun providing online courses about AI following its opening this month, and is preparing to begin onsite courses lasting three to nine months in October 2025.

The courses will cover “all aspects of Unreal Engine from fundamental to advanced techniques,” and will provide students with “industry-relevant skills” and guidance from instructors.

“Codfish Academy exists to provide game creators the skills, network and confidence to progress in an ever-evolving industry,” said Codfish Academy CEO Ricardo Flores Santos.

“We are looking to bridge the gap between formal education and industry needs.”

Óbidos Parque executive director Miguel Silvestre added: “It is with great enthusiasm that we welcome Codfish Academy to the park.

“This project represents an important step towards positioning Óbidos as a national hub for game development and digital arts.”
