Slopclap’s online multiplayer football game, Rematch, has reached five million unique players just one month after launch.
Developer Sloclap, the studio behind 2022 beat ’em up Sifu, revealed the new milestone in an X post on July 21, 2025: “One month after launch, @PlayRematch has reached 5 million unique players! We’ll keep doing our best to make Rematch better. Thank you again for your support all along the way!”
Released for PC, Xbox Series X/S (including Xbox Game Pass), and PS5 on June 19, 2025, Rematch offers a refreshing take on a genre that has, to date, been dominated by one main series: EA Sports FC (formerly FIFA).
Blending fast-paced 5v5 matches with an immersive third-person perspective, Rematch focuses on skill, team tactics, and ball control. In a recent developer update, posted on July 18, Sloclap described Rematch as “not just a football game”, but said that “in a way it’s a samurai game.”
Regardless of how you define it, it’s a combination that’s been going down a storm with players. The online football game drew over 1.3 million sign-ups for its beta test back in April, and within 24 hours of its launch in June, reached one million players.
According to the most recent developer update, Slocap’s current focus is on fixing “ongoing issues” and rolling out new features. Crossplay and player reporting should be implemented in the next six to eight weeks, while a new ranked queue will become available in “a couple of months.”
Speaking to GamesIndustry.biz in April, Alinea Analytics’ Head of Market Analysis Rhys Elliott, said: “Rematch is the best of both worlds here. It is a fresh new take on a relatively untapped genre, based on the world’s most popular sport, that has come along at a time when players are beginning to get frustrated with the market leader, EA’s FC.”
